This episode of Creative Roots is a little different and a lot of fun.

Tae sits down with his two sons and the neighbor’s kid for a real conversation about video games, but from a perspective you don’t always hear… the kids themselves.

We talk about:

How video games can actually be educational
Learning strategy, problem-solving, and decision-making through gaming
How they feel about their parents’ rules around gaming
The balance between fun and responsibility

Along the way, Tae takes a few trips down memory lane, sharing his own nostalgic gaming experiences and how things have changed over time.

The energy is real, the laughs are genuine, and yeah… you might notice the kids getting a little tired by the end, but not before we get a few more laughs out of them.

This episode is for kids, parents, and gamers of all ages - whether you play or just want to understand the impact gaming has today.

Thanks for listening! If this episode hit home, don’t forget to subscribe, rate, and share it with a fellow creative on their journey.

SPEAKER_02

What are we talking about today on Creative Rules Podcast?

SPEAKER_05

Video video games and parents' perspectives and our perspectives. I'm trying to play ring, Pete.

SPEAKER_02

Well, if I'm playing ring, then I I wouldn't invite nobody unless they know how to play too.

SPEAKER_01

Like I'm at least active. I thought the day said like being in the house playing games.

SPEAKER_02

So it wouldn't be a distraction. It would be something different than being in the streets, is basically what you're getting at. I'm so done with these kids. Listen, we had a whole conversation.

SPEAKER_04

Can we go to the store on our way home? Truth in the air, let it speak.

SPEAKER_02

Understand, we are recording and I don't edit. You don't? No, I don't.

SPEAKER_05

Then what do you be doing on the uh thing?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I cut off the dead space at the front, and I cut off the dead space at the back.

unknown

Oh.

SPEAKER_02

And then I put in third uh lower thirds. And then I put the music.

SPEAKER_05

Oh.

SPEAKER_02

And after that, that's pretty much it.

SPEAKER_05

And why does it take you so long to do that?

SPEAKER_02

I have to wait for things to process. It's not that it takes me a long time. I have to wait for things to process.

SPEAKER_05

For it to load?

SPEAKER_02

For it to process.

SPEAKER_01

Jacob, here yeah, we're recording.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly. Landon, turn your mic in a little bit.

SPEAKER_01

Like this?

SPEAKER_02

Yes, now push it back. Yeah, Jacob. We're just waiting on you to sit down, son.

SPEAKER_01

And that said he doesn't edit. I don't edit. You say he just cuts off the endpoint and the dead point.

SPEAKER_05

So you're not editing this like you be doing those other things?

SPEAKER_02

That's all I do. I cut off the front, I cut off the back.

SPEAKER_05

Then he cuts off the dead part or something like that.

SPEAKER_02

At the beginning. Who knows? I might not cut anything.

SPEAKER_05

You look like you be doing a whole lot more than that. Exactly.

SPEAKER_02

You sound like Landon. When it's mine, I'm not editing. When I say I'm not editing, that means when I press record, I find out where all the cameras start. So if one is longer than the other one, then I bring all of them together. Unless something interesting happened when there was only one camera rolling. Does that make sense? Because y'all not about to make it seem like it takes me five hours. See what I'm talking about? So, what are we talking about today?

SPEAKER_05

Can they even see JL?

SPEAKER_02

JL is on this camera right here. I'm not sure. So, what are you gonna do?

SPEAKER_05

Combine two both of the clips?

SPEAKER_02

All four of them, son. We got four cameras rolling today.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, not both, but all of them. Two, three.

SPEAKER_02

All four cameras are rolling. We have four mics rolling.

SPEAKER_05

What do you think is about to happen?

SPEAKER_02

Podcast. Podcast. What do you think we're doing? Podcast. I'll show you how to edit when we get home. Both of you since y'all are so intrigued.

SPEAKER_05

I know how to edit.

SPEAKER_02

We're not talking about on your phone.

SPEAKER_05

I'm not talking about Cap Cut.

SPEAKER_02

I'm not talking about Cap Cut either. What do you use to edit? Who uses that?

SPEAKER_05

Me. Landon.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly. He's not the only one. There are people that use Cap Cut. People use Cap Cut and that is their main editing tool. I don't. What do you use? I don't use Adobe Da Vinci Resolve. What?

SPEAKER_05

Not Adobe, but DaVinci Resolve.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I don't use Adobe no more.

SPEAKER_01

You didn't know that until you said it.

SPEAKER_05

Do you use it? I knew he used DaVinci Resolve, but I wouldn't forget which one.

SPEAKER_02

I did use Premiere Pro.

SPEAKER_05

Alright, what question are you gonna ask us?

SPEAKER_02

What?

SPEAKER_05

What question are we gonna ask us?

SPEAKER_02

I'm not going through that. Were you not hearing what I said when I was gonna have a conversation? Don't even don't even worry about it. He he'll figure it out. Son.

SPEAKER_05

Which one?

SPEAKER_02

You got some money.

SPEAKER_05

No, fix it.

SPEAKER_02

What do you mean, fix it? It's not broke.

SPEAKER_05

Something didn't look right.

SPEAKER_02

That's the NAS network attached system.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, I thought that was a printer.

SPEAKER_02

You thought it was a what?

SPEAKER_05

The printer.

SPEAKER_02

No. I thought it was a somebody's printing it. We're all sitting right here with the bigger. Monster KL?

SPEAKER_01

It was making some weird screech noise. Okay, so are y'all ready?

SPEAKER_05

Listen. They didn't clean my hands all the way. I see some black stuff.

SPEAKER_02

From changing the brakes. My hands are clean. I don't know what you missed.

SPEAKER_05

Like part of my nail.

SPEAKER_02

Landon, you wasn't even out there, dude.

SPEAKER_05

Out where?

SPEAKER_02

We changed your mama's brakes before we came up here.

SPEAKER_05

Oh.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. All right.

SPEAKER_05

I was there. So again, we went to Zion's house. I know.

SPEAKER_02

Mainly talking to you, Landon.

SPEAKER_05

What I do.

SPEAKER_02

What don't you do, son? Exactly. That's my whole point. Jacob, we're here. What are we doing? Listen. What's the day's subject, JayL? What are we talking about today on Creative Roots Podcast?

SPEAKER_05

Video, video games and parents' perspectives and our perspectives.

SPEAKER_02

Kids and video games.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

From a kid's perspective. I knew that. You knew that. Yes. So why you let Linda answer that question?

SPEAKER_01

Before I could speak, he started talking.

SPEAKER_02

You should just cut him off. True. I got this. And meanwhile, what's your boy over here doing?

SPEAKER_05

Get off your phone.

SPEAKER_02

Thank you. Thank you. I told him that like three times now. You do realize that we're already on YouTube, right? No, well not yet. You ain't post it. Huh? We ain't posted yet.

SPEAKER_05

Technically.

SPEAKER_02

Well, by the time people see this, we're already on YouTube. Oh. Oh. Okay. Okay. So listen, y'all. Welcome back to another episode of Creative Roots Podcast where seeing song become visions grown. I am your host, Tay. And uh I'm sitting here with these three young men. Introduce yourself, son. That's your camera right there. Yeah, that one you're looking at. Introduce yourself. Who are you? What is your name?

SPEAKER_05

Landon.

SPEAKER_02

And what do you do?

SPEAKER_05

YouTube.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. You, sir. What do you do? This is your camera right here. Look right in at me. It's tell them people what you do.

SPEAKER_01

Um, my name is JL, and uh I play sports and I play games sometimes.

SPEAKER_02

Stop tapping your foot. I can hear that. What do you do? Looking at the the one way on the desk, looking at the camera. What is your name and what do you do?

SPEAKER_05

My name is Jacob and I play sports and play games.

SPEAKER_02

Bring that mic closer to you because you you act like you don't want to talk today.

SPEAKER_05

Can I do it?

SPEAKER_02

Bring it down, son.

SPEAKER_05

Push it.

SPEAKER_02

No, this part right here. Yeah, push it. Push. All right, there you go.

SPEAKER_05

My name is Jacob, and I play sports and I play games.

SPEAKER_02

My name is Tay. I'm they daddy and his uncle. That's what we're going with for today.

SPEAKER_05

Technicality.

SPEAKER_02

Technicality. This kid right here. Listen. I don't know how we're gonna get through this episode, but we're gonna get you you okay, son? You okay? It's the pistachios. Ain't nobody tell you about them. Listen, y'all. I'm I'm about to kick my shoes off and get a little comfortable because I need to with these with these three. I gotta get as comfortable as I most possibly can. Listen. Today's episode. We're talking about video games. How y'all feel about video games? Good.

SPEAKER_05

Good.

SPEAKER_02

Y'all have got to be serious.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, they're fine. They're fun.

SPEAKER_02

How do you feel about video games? Good is your answer.

SPEAKER_05

They're even better whenever you're playing with friends.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Can I get an answer like that?

SPEAKER_01

Um, it's a good way to like, um it's a good way to calm yourself.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Well, Lana said. So it's a stress reliever from all this middle school work y'all got. Yes. I ain't never seen y'all do no work, but okay.

SPEAKER_05

I'm passing my class with A's and B's. We ain't never seen none of us do any work. No, not anybody. More than me. I don't got the class. I see you do the work. I don't got the class.

SPEAKER_02

I seen you do a lot of work.

SPEAKER_05

My family Spanish. I don't got the class.

SPEAKER_02

Passing. You pass it, that's what we're going with. Then my lowest grade is at 85.

SPEAKER_05

My lowest grade has been.

SPEAKER_02

Land if we not even know. So all y'all basically got A's and B's this quarter. Yes. Yeah, this quarter. Y'all ready for these finals?

SPEAKER_05

Yes. Yes. I'm trying to get in my life.

SPEAKER_01

Final quarter is usually the easiest. Cause it's like if the EOGs, and all you do is like remediate, and then once the EOG is over, we only do much besides half final.

SPEAKER_05

Gotta take my EOC. I want to go back to elementary school.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, eighth grade.

SPEAKER_05

Them is in the grade, but because I got math one. I gotta take my EOC. ELC.

SPEAKER_02

What's the difference? Just because of the grade you in?

SPEAKER_05

I mean, no, it's not the grade. I mean, they only have math one in eighth grade, but it's cold.

SPEAKER_02

I knew something looked different. Landon, do me a favor because you don't want to do it. Look in your camera and just talk about what your favorite game is.

SPEAKER_05

I don't know my favorite game.

SPEAKER_02

And why is Call of Duty your favorite game?

SPEAKER_05

Because I like uh it's it's fun.

SPEAKER_01

What are y'all doing?

SPEAKER_02

I'm about to put these kids on timeout already. We ain't even been recording 10 minutes, and y'all already about to be on punishment. Make it make sense, y'all.

SPEAKER_00

Jay, what games you play? Uh 2K, uh, Fortnite, a little bit of Rock League, and Roblox. What you play, Jacob?

SPEAKER_05

Rust.

SPEAKER_02

What games you play?

SPEAKER_05

We playing Roblox, 2K, Rainbow Six, Apex, and a little bit of Rocket League. Excuse me. Burp on the mic.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, this can't. So listen, answer this question for me. What was y'all's very first video game system?

SPEAKER_01

Uh Xbox One.

SPEAKER_05

Xbox 360? Oh, yeah, Xbox 360.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the Xbox 360.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, it wasn't the wait that I owned or that I played on. Xbox 360 that I played on. Wait, what was the now i've got a system you ever played on was an Xbox 360? No.

SPEAKER_02

What you say, JL? Xbox 360.

SPEAKER_05

The oldest thing I've ever played on was a PSP. The oldest thing I've ever played on was probably like, or that PSV to the Nintendo DS or PS4? Something like that. Wait, no, Game Boy.

unknown

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You ain't never played on no Game Boy. I played on a Game Boy Boy. You couldn't have played on a Game Boy son. He did. What'd it look like? It was a colored one. What'd it look like? Like it was like it was. You might be talking about a Game Boy Advance. Was it a Game Boy Advance?

SPEAKER_05

It might have been. It was.

SPEAKER_02

Because I was about to say, y'all did not play on my original Game Boy.

SPEAKER_05

Your Game Boy. It was like a colored one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think that was an advanced.

SPEAKER_05

Wait, did you have Game Boy? The one I had was black.

SPEAKER_02

The one I had was black. It was black with red buttons. Was it like blue or something?

SPEAKER_05

Because my oldest console that I've ever played on was either the PSP or the PS Vita or that Game Boy, or it was that uh Nintendo 2DS or something like that. Where did you get access to a PS Vita or a PSP?

SPEAKER_01

What was the difference? Funny like an old Wii.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, the old Wii. The black.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, never mind.

SPEAKER_02

I think it came out after the yeah, I think they came out after the Grammar's 360. The original Wii. Right.

SPEAKER_05

So then we have the Wii and the Wii U.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we had both. I think we still have both.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. That one's in my room. Somewhere in his room. The Wii U.

SPEAKER_02

Maiden's room.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, the black one where I had the controller. That's in my room somewhere.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, with the controller.

SPEAKER_05

Like in Nintendo.

SPEAKER_02

So what do y'all play games on now? Uh PS5.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, I play a EXP.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so but this is what we're gonna do. One at a time. Because y'all talking over each other and people can't understand y'all. So let's slow this down. You play on PS5. Yes. What you play on?

SPEAKER_05

PC Xbox Series S in my phone.

SPEAKER_02

What you play on?

SPEAKER_05

Uh Purple Xbox Xbox One S. Xbox One S. And then I'm pretty sure it was like a Fortnite exclusive thing that Jacob had got.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. I said that's what y'all play on now. Yeah, because we gotta get you a motherboard. I gotta build you another one. I think I'm just gonna have to build you another one.

SPEAKER_05

When you upgrade me and yours, or yeah, so I'm gonna have to get upgraded.

SPEAKER_02

So who got y'all started playing video games?

SPEAKER_05

My dad.

SPEAKER_01

They said don't point.

SPEAKER_05

Oh yeah. Either my dad or my brother, whichever one. One of them two. Who got you started? My dad.

SPEAKER_02

Your dad.

SPEAKER_05

Who got you started?

SPEAKER_02

And Where's your dad? Where's your dad?

SPEAKER_05

To my left?

SPEAKER_02

To my left. That's me. What was the first game I had you play? What was the first game you remember playing?

SPEAKER_05

It was. It was either some game on it was either something on Siege or it was like a Fortnite game. I remember you downloaded it back when I was like, I was in like kindergarten.

SPEAKER_02

There's no way I had you playing Rainbow Six Siege in kindergarten.

SPEAKER_05

It was it was either Rainbow Six or Fortnite. Because I remember because you had you had that like that blue and black controller. You remember like that from that apartment that we used to live in? You had like a blue and black and controllers and black controllers and had like stripes on it.

SPEAKER_02

So that had to be the Xbox One.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, it was that black one.

SPEAKER_02

Hey Landon, your mic is on. People can hear you. Chill.

SPEAKER_05

Dang it.

SPEAKER_02

Oh chill.

SPEAKER_05

Because I remember it was that big TV in the living room, and then my room was like over there.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know what the point we're talking about. I don't remember what you played.

SPEAKER_01

Jail, you remember what game your first game was? Um yes, it was Minecraft on Xbox 360, I think.

SPEAKER_02

Landon, what was the very first game you played? It was probably Roblox or something.

SPEAKER_05

Either for Roblox Fortnite or GTA. It was GTA.

SPEAKER_02

There's no way. It was like your very first game was GTA.

SPEAKER_05

It was not no way.

SPEAKER_02

It was GTA. When y'all play these video games, let me let me let me explain something to y'all.

SPEAKER_05

I think it was from this photo that I pressed my game that I played my first game.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know what that means, Landon. That doesn't show me what game you played. That just shows me that you had a very big smile on your face holding my Xbox controller. I don't know. I don't know, son.

SPEAKER_03

Definitely for now.

SPEAKER_02

Understand where I come from. Well, not even where I come from, but when I started playing video games, we did not have press continue. Y'all know when we played Mario, we had three lives.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_05

Mario played.

SPEAKER_02

Have y'all played a game where you only have three lives, and if you don't make it to the end, it says game over? Think.

SPEAKER_05

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

What you play?

SPEAKER_05

I don't remember, but I played something like that.

SPEAKER_02

What you play, Landon?

SPEAKER_05

Probably playing Fritz of the Zombies, Xbox One.

SPEAKER_02

They have lives on there? And if you don't make it, it says game over.

SPEAKER_05

No, not game over, but I played the Impossible Quiz.

SPEAKER_01

The what? Impossible Quiz? Jacob, you played that with me one time.

SPEAKER_05

It's like a thing on like Google. It's like a Google website game.

SPEAKER_01

And if you don't pass it, you have three lives and it's just a game over there to restart completely.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

From that level?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, from the first level. From the very start. From the beginning. Like level one.

SPEAKER_05

You have to go back all the way to level one.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, you could be on like level 100, and then if you get it, um like get it wrong three times, then you have to go all the way back to level one.

SPEAKER_02

Oh no. That's how Mario was. That's how a lot of games were. You know, the first game that you could not pause, that I remember that I played, that you could not pause in the midst of you playing. You had to wait till the next screen was Mortal Kombat. So imagine playing Mortal Kombat and then your mom and your dad call you, right?

SPEAKER_05

Oh yeah. Dad. And oh wait, no mind.

SPEAKER_02

You better be random right now, and I'm talking. Landon. Put the phone down. Thank you. You're the only person with a phone right now.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, because you're not going to be able to do that.

SPEAKER_02

How many push-ups y'all think he should do? Be realistic. How many push-ups you think he should do for having his phone on the podcast? 20. 10?

SPEAKER_05

10.

SPEAKER_02

All right.

SPEAKER_05

You can't do that much, jail. I don't even know if he can do five.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I mean, it's a challenge.

SPEAKER_05

I think that's like 10.

SPEAKER_02

Don't do that to your brother. I mean, we the whole world about this.

SPEAKER_01

If we say we was outside and we left them bottles outside, he's gonna make us do 20.

SPEAKER_02

So I think it's fair. So at this point, Lane owes us 10 push-ups, right? Yes. Okay, glad we had that conversation.

SPEAKER_05

15, we could go in the middle. 15. I said 10, he said 20. We could go in the middle. 15 or 10. 15.

SPEAKER_02

15. You owe me 15 push-ups. What was I saying?

SPEAKER_01

We're talking about Mortal Kombat and why you can't pause it. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Imagine playing Mortal Kombat and you over here beating the boss. And you can't because your mama or your daddy called you. And you know what? You know what they mean? All the way back to the beginning, because you can't pause it. Now I know y'all play games that y'all can pause. But what is your top game that you can play where no matter what happens, you can pause it or you can stop it.

SPEAKER_05

I don't play no of those games.

SPEAKER_01

I don't play a game you can pause. Huh? I don't play a game you can pause.

SPEAKER_02

I can hear that. Oh y'all don't play any games they can y'all can't pause Rocket League.

SPEAKER_01

Roblox can't pause them, Jacob?

SPEAKER_05

Technically, you can't. You can't. Technically, you can just stop what you're doing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but you can stop what you're doing, but like certain games on Roblox, you can't like.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. No, no, no.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so you can stop just Yeah, you can stay in a place.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Roblox is the but on certain games. 2K isn't the same way.

SPEAKER_01

You can stop, but while you're still in the game. Like still on certain games. 2K. You can stop, but like still you still like in the game.

SPEAKER_05

2K, my career. GTA. 2K, my career can stop.

SPEAKER_02

So let's let's preface this for those that don't know about video games. What y'all are mostly talking about are playing online. Yes. Okay. And what game do you say, Landon?

SPEAKER_05

I said GTA, technically.

SPEAKER_02

Story mode.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, story mode.

SPEAKER_02

But story mode. Unless you go hide or yeah, you can hide. Go back to the house or the safe house or whatever it's called. Huh?

SPEAKER_05

You can go back to the lobby? Like the main place.

SPEAKER_02

I mean like you still in the game. Um what what do y'all play that has like a challenge?

SPEAKER_05

This year?

SPEAKER_02

Like um rank? Rank.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, Fortnite. Apex, Rainbow City. Yeah, Fortnite has a rank.

SPEAKER_02

Fortnite has rank.

SPEAKER_05

It's a rank. Fortnite has rank now? Yeah, they did that since like 2022.

SPEAKER_02

2022.

SPEAKER_05

Or 2021, whichever one it was.

SPEAKER_02

I missed that. I mean, I don't I don't play Fortnite.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah. By the way, you got Fortnite Crew.

SPEAKER_02

I got Fortnite what?

SPEAKER_05

Fortnite Crew for because uh big game pass ultimate. They did that since like November last year. So you got Fortnite Crew, you got like uh 5,000 V-Bucks. Um I think Fortnite Crew is like a monthly subscription for like$10, but you don't gotta pay that because it comes with Ultimate. Yeah. You so you got like$5,000 V-Bucks from the last time I checked. Or$3,000. Yeah, every month you get away. Wait a minute. Wait, wait, wait. Are you still checking my account? Are you still gonna be able to get him? No, I have your controller that signs automatically into your account, and then I try to play Fortnite with my friend and I accidentally go to your account instead of mine because of your controller.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you know you can change that, right?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I don't want to change autoclip though. I have to sign in first. And if not, he can't get in.

SPEAKER_05

I sign in and then you sign in. That's why.

SPEAKER_02

Huh?

SPEAKER_05

No, whenever I turn on my Xbox, I sign in and then you sign in after that's why. So sometimes whenever I'm playing a game, Jacob or someone can just get on and kick me off. I don't need to kick you off.

SPEAKER_02

No, talk about when you're gonna be like, if you log in with my account, you log out over there. So, Rainbow Six Siege, Jacob. You want to talk about Rainbow Six Siege? Because I like this game. Do you want to talk about it? Yes, let's talk about it. So I've been playing Rainbow Six Siege since it was 1799, season one. Have you played Siege before? I played before. I just don't play it like at all.

SPEAKER_05

You play it sometimes.

SPEAKER_02

You play it sometimes.

SPEAKER_05

I keep delaying. And then he plays it when he sees me playing it and then asks if he could join, and I say no. Because you played ranked.

SPEAKER_02

He won't hear me.

SPEAKER_05

I'm trying to play ranked.

SPEAKER_02

Well, if I'm playing ranked, then I I wouldn't invite nobody unless they know how to play two. So when you play Rainbow Six Siege, what how do you choose your character? You base it on the team, or you base it on the level, like the map you're playing on, or you just pick whoever you want to pick.

SPEAKER_05

Sometimes I base it off the team, and sometimes I base it off the map. Or depending. I just on how I want to play that round.

SPEAKER_02

You said what, Landon?

SPEAKER_05

I just picked Koal, like Landon. You don't have many characters. You just started the game. I know. I'm like level eight or four.

SPEAKER_02

So I gotta figure out because I got all the characters except for one, right?

SPEAKER_05

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

I have to go look at some stuff. I might.

SPEAKER_05

I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

I might wait till uh till his PC gets fixed and then buy all the characters. That way I ain't waste my own. English what?

SPEAKER_05

They said my information might be leaked on Steam.

SPEAKER_02

It might be what on Steam? Oh leaked.

SPEAKER_05

Like his account information might be leaked. I think that means that like he's used the password too many times and it might be compromised.

SPEAKER_02

We'll have to figure that out because you ain't tell me that.

SPEAKER_05

I logged in like a couple days ago. Try to see if I could.

SPEAKER_02

Son. We're gonna fight. That's what. Alright. So y'all play video games, y'all play online. Can you explain the difference between playing with people you know and what we call randoms? Who wants to explain what a random is? Explain.

SPEAKER_01

Somebody you don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Who? Somebody you don't know? Somebody you don't know. Now, have y'all met people that were random that y'all played real well with and made friends? And and now y'all talk through game chat or Discord or something?

SPEAKER_05

Not really anymore.

SPEAKER_02

Not anymore. You pretty much locked in with your crew anyway. So with that, what's the difference between playing with people you know and playing with a bunch of randoms? Go ahead, Landon.

SPEAKER_05

Uh why do you keep raising your hand? I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Uh you raise your hand like you had an answer, son. Come on.

SPEAKER_05

The difference between playing with someone you don't know and playing with someone you do know, it's easier to talk to them because you know how they act and don't act whenever you uh you're playing with someone you do know, when whatever you're playing with you don't know, you don't know how they will act or something like that, and you don't know if they have a microphone to talk.

SPEAKER_02

So when you play with people, you know, you know how they move, you know what they do, what they will and won't do. But random, we don't know. Correct? Yes. How do you think that applies to life?

SPEAKER_01

Applies to life? Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, like people you don't know, like new people, you meet something like that. Like get introduced to someone. Is that what they're talking about?

SPEAKER_02

I just asked, how does it apply to life? Y'all have no answer.

SPEAKER_01

Uh it's too that's too advanced for my like new meeting language. You say what? That's too that's too advanced of a question.

SPEAKER_02

That's not too advanced of a question. Look, this is how I would explain it. Sometimes you meet a random person playing a video game, right? They can play very well, they can match your skill set, and you say, you know what, I'm gonna friend this person. You friend them, you send a message, you make sure that y'all are communicating as y'all continue to play the game together, right? Yes. Then you have people that are just bonds, people that can't play, people that you don't want to play with no more, so you just remove yourself from the lobby, right? Yes. So does that not in a sense apply to life? Like, you know, people you go to school with that you shouldn't hang around, can't hang around, you know, that they have bad intentions, or you know, that they don't do the same things that you do, or you have people that have the same innocent like mind. Like y'all play football, y'all been playing football together for what, three, four, five years now?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, like five years? No, not five. Four, probably four.

SPEAKER_02

One, two, three. Been at least four, right? Yeah. I mean, yes.

SPEAKER_05

So me and Jay S are the same year.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I know. It was fun, wasn't it? Mm-hmm. So think about that when y'all have these moments with randoms, right? Again, can y'all tell me how that applies to life, or did I already explain it well enough for y'all to move on? Oh, I explained it well enough. I explained it well enough. For me. So, when y'all do play video games, answer this question too. How do y'all parents feel about y'all playing games?

SPEAKER_01

Um, my mom, she doesn't really care as long as I'm not being like loud, or I'm up like late. Um, if it's if it's like on a weekend, she won't she won't care if I'm up late as long as I'm not being loud while she sleep. Oh, your dad.

SPEAKER_05

I'm pretty sure my dad don't mind as long as I'm not loud. And my mom kind of sees it as my distraction. But because I click this.

SPEAKER_02

Stop touching buttons.

SPEAKER_05

My mom kind of sees it as like a distraction, kind of.

SPEAKER_02

You say your mom what?

SPEAKER_05

Kind of just he's kinda sees it as a distract.

SPEAKER_02

You are making the most noise is to be the oldest person sitting here. And everybody in YouTube is gonna hear how you are so antsy. You wanna fight?

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_01

Jacob, remember, my camera can see your knee.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm. You want to box? Because I think you want to box.

SPEAKER_01

I got two pairs of boxing gloves in my house.

SPEAKER_02

You got some boxing gloves? That's what's gonna happen when we get back to the house in the grass. That's where we're going. Ride nuck if you buck. Hear me? What was you saying, Landon?

SPEAKER_05

My mom kind of sees you as a distraction.

SPEAKER_02

Jay, you say your mom doesn't care as long as you're not up late.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, like on a weekend she doesn't care if I'm up late. As long as I'm not being loud, like while she's sleeping. As long as I'm not being loud in general, she isn't really mind. And at least like if I go outside, or like I'm at least active throughout the day. I said, like being in the house playing games.

SPEAKER_02

That's the biggest thing for me. How you feel, Jacob? How your parents feel about you playing video games?

SPEAKER_05

My parents don't really say anything until I'm too loud.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Or, or when I call y'all and y'all don't come downstairs. Now, as a gaming dad, y'all know I got y'all back, right? Because does y'all mom not say she don't care if you can't pause that game or not? And and who comes to save y'all? Mm-hmm. Y'all should be grateful. Let the people in YouTube world know I am grateful for my dad.

SPEAKER_05

Y'all suck, man.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_05

I just said I am.

SPEAKER_02

So, how does it feel having a dad at games?

SPEAKER_05

Good. Fun.

SPEAKER_02

Y'all with these one-word answers. I'm not going to be able to do that. And I'll get on that game with y'all.

SPEAKER_01

Um, if it was fun, because it's like if someone else, you know they like what am I to get on the game with you? You got an answer, Jacob?

SPEAKER_05

I mean, it's better than having random teammates.

SPEAKER_02

It's a whole lot better. Especially when you're playing with somebody that knows how to play. Right?

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

So. What y'all want to talk about now?

SPEAKER_05

Going home.

SPEAKER_02

There he go. He's ready to go home. That's your brother.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, we've been here for about two hours. And then most of the time we spent.

SPEAKER_02

And it took about an hour and a half to get set up because y'all kept sitting down on me. Y'all quit on me.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, earlier we sat down for 10 seconds.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, must you try you throwing and punch us in the chest? All of us.

SPEAKER_05

Earlier when that we were talking about games and live. I was gonna say Super Mario 4, because you have four lives, and then if you die with all those four lives, uh you get restarted with the game over things. I was gonna talk about it.

SPEAKER_02

That was on Super Mario 4. I don't even remember.

SPEAKER_05

Super Mario 64.

SPEAKER_02

When did you play Mario 64?

SPEAKER_05

I was playing on my school computer one time.

SPEAKER_02

Emulator. Emulator. Do y'all know what emulators are?

SPEAKER_05

No, no. I heard of the word little.

SPEAKER_02

Emulators are basically a copy of the game that you can play on whatever device you have without it being on the disc. So when I work for Sprint, I had um websites where I could go and download any game since Atari. And that was one of my selling points. I would put a Mario game or a Need for Speed or something, uh Double Dragon. Y'all don't even know what Double Dragon is. I would put those games on people's phones so that they would have a real game to play. I would put games on there from PlayStation, all the way up to I think the PS2, maybe the PS3 at that time. Emulators are pretty cool, but you gotta be careful where you get them from.

SPEAKER_01

So you can get viruses.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly. It will corrupt your phone.

SPEAKER_05

Joseah got one of those. He was trying to watch the Super Bowl off of uh off a weird website off of Google, and he got a virus on his phone. Who?

SPEAKER_01

Who Isaiah? See, I did I got a virus on my phone. Oh, yeah. Because I was trying to watch, I was trying to watch with Foster when it first came out. And then I looked up on TikTok and it said searching stuff. I mean I got to watch it halfway. But then I got a virus.

SPEAKER_02

And then boom, it shut it off.

SPEAKER_05

People be trying to hack me on my phone, but Apple be saving me. They said I got 73 protected viruses. I got protected from them. Because Apple saved me, apparently.

SPEAKER_02

We taking your phone after this episode. We taking your phone to figure out what you over here doing. You agree, Jacob? You're gonna have me hold him down, beat him up real quick. Take his phone. All right. Jail, you can record it, put it on World Star. Yeah. Do y'all even know what World Star is? No, I heard about it though. Oh my god. I heard about it. Listen, don't worry about World Star is. Don't don't worry about it. We good.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, I know that one clip of that dude saying it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Don't worry about it. I'll explain off camera what World Star is. So when it comes to video games, is there anything that y'all would like adults to know that do not play video games? Right.

SPEAKER_05

That you can let your uh kids play it if you have some to uh help them out and stuff like that. Well, you can play edge educational games if you want them to learn stuff.

SPEAKER_01

And also wait, what was the question again?

SPEAKER_02

What I said what was the question, Landon?

SPEAKER_05

Something about helping pants.

SPEAKER_02

What would you want adults to know that don't play video games? Landon, you basically said what they're educational, so you should allow your kids to play? What you got to say, Jay Jacob?

SPEAKER_05

Depending on what game you're playing, a game could teach you a life lesson.

SPEAKER_02

Thinking long and hard about that one, huh? Okay, so your mom doesn't play video games, right? No. If she was to say Jay would get off that game all the time, what would you want her to know about the games that you play in?

SPEAKER_01

Um sometimes a game can help somebody calling you. Like you it helps it like for distraction, because it's like, no, some kids they probably like sell things that are not supposed to be like a game can help you to be distracted from going out and doing things like that.

SPEAKER_02

Said a last moment one time to help you with what?

SPEAKER_01

It helps you like get distracted from doing like the bad things that are in the world, like selling stuff.

SPEAKER_02

So it wouldn't be a distraction, it would be something different than being in the streets is basically what you're getting at.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. I can free from the streets.

SPEAKER_02

Now, you mentioned it, but I want to state this again. These kids are active, these kids are outside playing basketball, football. When it snows, they're sliding down the hill in the backyard. Who?

SPEAKER_05

Kickball.

SPEAKER_02

Kickball. What else do y'all play? Oh, we don't play what we fish.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we fish.

SPEAKER_02

They go fishing and they actually be catching stuff.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think go with this all the time. You know this about five times out of the more like ten times.

SPEAKER_05

I don't even know if he went five times and probably two or three. Jacob, you won't catch nothing. That's what I had.

SPEAKER_01

Jacob did catch something before.

SPEAKER_05

He said, last time someone asked about you fishing, you said you ain't catching nothing yet. I'm pretty sure it was dad that asked you.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna have to um call GJ. That was like the day before I could be a fishing trip.

SPEAKER_05

I need to fish on a boat. That's the thing.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know if I want to put y'all on no boat. Y'all can even say that.

SPEAKER_05

I need a new fish rod and a new me, JL, and then was at the lake house. We wanted to ride the boat to try to catch some fish if we had caught and I had caught him.

SPEAKER_02

Well, we're gonna have to call him too. We're gonna have to call somebody, get y'all on a real fishing trip.

SPEAKER_05

Um wait, where's DJ gonna take us to the beach? Beach up here?

SPEAKER_02

I don't know. I'll have to find out. Might be somewhere closer than the beach. Or Great Tillery, Baden Lake. I don't know about Baden Lake.

SPEAKER_01

Bait Lake is good. I've been there before.

SPEAKER_05

With who? Adrian and Rex?

SPEAKER_01

Adrian and Solace.

SPEAKER_05

Wait, didn't Solace have a lake house there or was that Lake Tillery?

SPEAKER_01

That was Lake Tillery.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, hey, hey, hey, come back. Come back. Oh.

SPEAKER_05

You said normal conversation.

SPEAKER_02

I did say normal conversation, but y'all telling all y'all mentioning all kinds of people's names and and y'all just out there. Sure. So when it comes to video games, from a kid's perspective, all y'all are teenagers except for landing at this point, right? Yes. You say that they teach you life lessons. They're very educational. If there was a game that you think a kid should play today that can teach them a lesson that is between the ages of eight and fifteen, what game would it be?

SPEAKER_05

Wait, can it be like teach them life lessons? A B ABC Y'all? It's like a school game, though. Wait, can I say something like that? That's educational.

SPEAKER_01

That's fine.

SPEAKER_05

Oh yeah. A B C Y'all, cool math game, something like that.

SPEAKER_02

Extreme math.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Extreme math.

SPEAKER_05

Math playground?

SPEAKER_02

Oh. Okay. What you got? Uh I'll put it, I'll say this. Anything that is adventurous and open world.

SPEAKER_01

Animal Crossing.

SPEAKER_02

I've never played it. I've never played it either. Oh, my talents play it. Have you played it?

SPEAKER_05

Nope. Minecraft? What about Minecraft? I played it like for like five minutes on her um, yeah, her uh Nintendo.

SPEAKER_02

Minecraft is open world.

SPEAKER_05

Basically. That can teach you. There's Minecraft educational, also.

SPEAKER_02

Doesn't Minecraft also teach you like survival? Yes. Like how to chop down the trees and in a sense get crafting. You can chop down a tree with your bearing. And craft things. Who craft things?

SPEAKER_05

What is the thing? You can make stuff.

SPEAKER_02

I was gonna say building, but yeah, you can also build. You can build too.

SPEAKER_05

I mean it's hard in real life. Because it could teach you how to be like strategic in the in strategy. Yeah, different ways to think.

SPEAKER_02

How to resolve an issue, how to maneuver in a sense through life. Right? Yes. What do you learn from playing 2K? How to play basketball? How to play basketball.

SPEAKER_05

Madden? What about that?

SPEAKER_02

What do you learn from playing Madden? How to play football?

SPEAKER_05

How to play football, how to catch, how to do a whole bunch of stuff, how to learn playing basketball.

SPEAKER_01

I feel like observing like playing like games like that. Observing, like is gonna like is some people, it might like make them feel motivated to want to try to do that. And then like once they master it, then they can like put it onto like a court and cook somebody.

SPEAKER_05

Do we got do we got flag football around where we live?

SPEAKER_02

And Charlotte. We do, but you're too old for flag football.

SPEAKER_05

Oh I'm talking about like 10 11 or something.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, my beautiful grade, they play flag football. So in my mind, but boys version. No. But they had to go to like West Charlotte.

SPEAKER_02

Hmm.

SPEAKER_05

No, because why don't they have a WNFN?

SPEAKER_02

Landon aged out of that like two years ago. Uh-huh. Or something like that. Because we checked. Yeah, he aged out. Unless they didn't change the shit.

SPEAKER_05

I should have played fat flag football whenever Jacob was in. But I didn't know how to do anything.

SPEAKER_02

That's fine. So Landon has a YouTube channel. He's got over 6,000 subscribers. But there are things that keep us from monetizing your channel. Let's talk about this channel, Landon. Let's let's be brief about it and straight to the point. Let people know what your the name of your channel is and uh what they can expect to see on your channel. Look in your camera, not me.

SPEAKER_05

That one?

SPEAKER_02

Yes, and that one.

SPEAKER_05

Uh I have like videos from three years ago whenever I had a PC about me playing games, and I still sometimes have games.

SPEAKER_02

Bring that mic closer to you.

SPEAKER_05

And I oh like this.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

And I still sometimes have games that I still play then. I mean now, but you can't really see them because they're not really good quality. Because I just recorded them from my phone, but I can't really do that anymore because I don't have like anything to record it on. And I upload some short stuff like that and other stuff.

SPEAKER_02

And Jacob, you just started your gaming channel, right? Kind of what what do you plan on doing with your gaming channel, L uh Jacob?

SPEAKER_05

I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

You don't know. So that means we need to sit down and have uh a coaching session.

SPEAKER_05

Because I haven't really been recording or streaming anything ever since we re we had to reset my PC. Oh wait, get us. I'm not like not all my stuff is gone on OBS and Streamlabs.

SPEAKER_02

So you need to set that back up. JL, you got a gaming channel? Nope. You start one? Yeah, when I get my PC. When you get your PC?

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_02

Why not start it now? You got a PS5?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but like you can go straight to Twitch, can't you? Yeah, but I need to pay for like a PS5 webcam. It don't work with any other like I have to get a PS5 webcam, which is like a hundred dollars on eBay and stuff like that. And a PS5 webcam. It has to be, you have to use it, like it has to be Sony, it has to be a PlayStation, yeah. It has to be a PlayStation webcam. I have a regular webcam, but like because if I had a PlayStation one that I would stream on Twitch, but because I Don't have it.

SPEAKER_02

But you can still stream straight to Twitch though. Yes. Even without the webcam. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

But it's like I heard that audience will like to see a face and like for reactions and things like that. So that's why I was just wondering the way to get my PC and use the one I have now.

SPEAKER_02

We'll have to look and see if um you can sync your phone as a webcam to it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I can. I have to use like Streamlabs.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Well we're gonna have to figure that out then. What you think? Yes. Yeah. I can dig it. I got a gaming channel. Y'all know what's on my gaming channel?

SPEAKER_05

What?

SPEAKER_02

Four or five clips.

SPEAKER_01

Same for me. No, that's all I got. Or stream like twice. Almost twice a but that was it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I used to go live. I haven't gone live in a minute. But I don't know. I'm gonna have to work on that. I'm trying to understand what's going on with you today, son. I was trying to ask you a question. What you about to ask me? What you got to ask?

SPEAKER_05

What are we eating?

SPEAKER_02

What are we? We're talking about video games, and this dude is hungry. You know what? I'm about to end this episode too. Because I don't know what to say about y'all. I I expected more from y'all this episode from today. Because y'all was talking, y'all was chit-chatting it up, y'all was over here moving. I turned on these lights and y'all don't want to talk to me.

SPEAKER_01

Nah, see, because we were talking, but then he told us to stop like because we were like giving too much information out, apparently. Don't don't don't come for me. I mean for me because we were talking about earlier, kind of like doing the same thing, but it's like if we talk about that how we were talking earlier, that's gonna give out too much information.

SPEAKER_05

Is that another 15? Huh? Is that another 15?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And you can hear you know you can hear his keyboard clicking, getting that little noise.

SPEAKER_02

You you missed the whole conversation, didn't you? Mm-hmm. It's another 15. I'm hungry too.

SPEAKER_01

I'm a little hungry too. My stomach keep mumbo.

SPEAKER_05

Oh yeah, also gonna say you better be on YouTube.

SPEAKER_01

I said I said I'm a little hungry too.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, y'all hungry. Well, I'm glad I know it's food at the house, huh? How y'all feel about that? You dumb?

SPEAKER_01

I feel nothing.

SPEAKER_02

I'm so done with these kids. Listen, we had a whole conversation.

SPEAKER_04

What can we go to the store on our way home?

SPEAKER_02

See, see what I'm talking about? Straight up distracted. Not even talking about what store are you talking about going to?

SPEAKER_05

Like like Walmart or something?

SPEAKER_02

No, we're not going to go to the Speedway. Huh? Speedway. What? Speedway. No. Because y'all going to is in the neighborhood.

SPEAKER_01

We don't got no store in the pudding.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly. You're gonna open up that fridge. That's the only thing, only store y'all going to, the pantry. You know, at y'all's house. Not mine. You can't you two can't even come back to my house.

SPEAKER_05

Why not?

SPEAKER_02

You just can't. So means I can't. Yeah, I live there. So I can I can come to your house. Oh no. I have to ask.

SPEAKER_04

Did she even buy chili for the hot dogs?

SPEAKER_02

I don't know, but if you don't stop moving that dog or chair, Jacob, they can see your right knee in my camera. Yes.

SPEAKER_05

Can I say my Twitch name?

SPEAKER_02

No. Oh, no, what you asked me.

SPEAKER_03

Huh?

SPEAKER_02

Listen, y'all. I expected more from these kids today talking about video games. One of their most favorite past times. One of the things that they do to pastime when they don't have schoolwork and they're not outside running around or fishing. And I'm just trying to understand what happened today, but it's okay. Well, what else do you do? That's your favorite?

SPEAKER_05

Watch movies. Watch puppies. Chronological order.

SPEAKER_02

Chronological order.

SPEAKER_05

Did you say watch puppies?

SPEAKER_02

Movies. Movies. Oh. Son. Movies.

SPEAKER_05

I heard puppies.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god. Alright, I think we're done with this episode. Are y'all done?

SPEAKER_05

Oh no.

SPEAKER_02

Y'all they have anything else to say about video games and parents and you know, a perspective from a child. Land, I don't even know if I want to know what you're about to say. What do you got to say, son?

SPEAKER_05

I was gonna say on how video can tell can help you get money, like on certain games like Fortnite. They have calf's cubs where you can earn money from it if you win it. If you win.

SPEAKER_02

So you can't be monetized playing video games. That's something that y'all didn't mention. You can make money playing video games, and you don't have to have a whole lot of followers or subscribers, right? You can just be in contact with certain people where people contact you and say, hey, buy use our microphone, audio interface. Uh you use our webcam. Who's the highest paying gamer right now? I don't know either. I figured y'all did.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

It's a lot of people. It was pretty high.

SPEAKER_05

Queso, Jinxie.

SPEAKER_01

Um I used to watch typical gamer. I used to. Yeah, I used to watch typical gamer. Laser Beam, yeah, laser beam. And I used to watch Feeless too.

SPEAKER_05

Fresh, Courtless, Court, Kourt, FG TV. They used to play games.

SPEAKER_01

FGTV.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah. They still they do they still sometimes play games. Yeah, it's a family channel.

SPEAKER_02

I know who they are.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, mom doesn't. I'm pretty sure that's who you wanted our our family YouTube channel to be.

SPEAKER_02

We were gonna make a YouTube channel. We were gonna mirror what they did, but the games that we play. You know? But yeah, that never happened. Alright, we done. I am so done with these kids. They done tapped out on me. They done got hungry. So this is what we're gonna do.

SPEAKER_03

That's so true.

SPEAKER_02

Thank y'all for tuning in to another episode of Creative Bruce Podcast where season become visions grown. These kids about to go home, they about to eat, and I can guarantee you. And I can guarantee you they about to go play some video games.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, me and Nick Granny finished truth in the air.

SPEAKER_02

Alright, that's it for this episode. Peace.
